June Summers 2

I thought June could use a better drawing so I did it. I knocked the rendering out in about three hours, so I'm glad I'm getting faster.

Developed Heads

Took a few of the head sketches from last night and decided to render them out. I had a lot of fun with these, especially with the alien head on the right. Playing with the specularity on its skin was cool. The alien on the left is a bit week I think, mostly because I didn't do a good job at defining a lite source and it's could use more contrast. I'll probably be developing alien head on the right and Jaws up there a little later on. Maybe bring them into GLORIOUS 3D!

The Furnace Knight

I definitely spent way too much time on this guy, but I'm pretty happy with how he turned out. The original idea of having a furnace latch on his stomach, while a neat visual aspect, wouldn't really allow him to turn at the waist, so that was scrapped. None the less, I'm real pumped that the final concept is finished. Now I just have to go ahead and model him!

These are some of my explorations that eventually led up to my final design.

2D Dump

Been makin' a lot of progress over the last few weeks.

Finished me concept for Douglas. I had a burst of inspiration on how to tackle his arm design. Godbless those slap-on bracelets from the early 90s.

A paint over of a very old sketch I did some time ago.

Another character portrait. Went right into this after watching some Bob Kato tutorials. Man that guy knows what he's talking about.

Edit: For some reason the thumbnails weren't linking to their full sized counterparts. Should be fixed now.

Crocomire

Hey everyone, and Happy New Year!

Super Metroid is probably my favorite game of all time. As such, I decided to do a sculpt of one its mini-bosses, the Crocomire. I made this guy entirely out of ZSpheres. I'm currently in the process of retopologizing it.

Edit: Replaced the old image with one that includes a shot of the back.

Small WIP Dump

This past Monday was International Self Portrait day, and I thought it'd be fun to do a full body, low poly model of myself. Unfortunately, that project was a little too ambitious to pull off in a day, so I only got as far texturing the face and some of the upper body. Still, I'm pleased with how far I got in about 12 hours.

Douglas' main body is pretty much finished. He weighs about 12,000 tris right now, and after I model her prosthetic leg, his extra arms and do some mesh optimization, I hope to have him at not much more than 15 - 16,000 tris. After that, it's laying out UVs, which is gonna be a bit more tedious than usual seeing as there are so many parts, but oh well. It's gonna be good times anyway.

Christopher Lloyd

In honor of Back to the Future's 25th Anniversary, I decided I'd do a portrait of Christopher Lloyd. I spent about four hours on it and it was a bit tricky working with so many photo refs with him at different ages, but I think I got pretty close to his likeness. There are a few imperfections I gotta touch up still (ears and chin to name a few) and I also want to get a detail brush to really get at those finer details and face wrinkles. I really wanna get him as photo real as possible.

Douglas concept

I've been trying to flesh this guy out for a while. On the upper left is one of my earlier attempts, but I really nailed it this time. I still need to figure out what I'm gonna do with his extra pair of arms though. I want them to be more than just tubes with fingers at the end especially because of how I want them to disassemble and then merge with his arms to give him more strength. I might just end up concepting them in 3D later.

The Time Traveler

Man, it's been a busy month. I finally got a break to make a proper card for the time traveler. I created him for the most recent Low Poly challenge at the Polycount forums but I ended up missing the turn-in date on account of being at Siggraph. Either way, I'm still quite pleased with how he turned out. I had a lot of fun making this guy, especially when I got to channel my love for Back to the Future into the design.
